CBVA Santa Barbara Results

Battling the fading light and an energized opponent, Hawk Hatcher and Parker Kalmbach came back from a set down in the day’s final match to win the Santa Barbara CBVA Open on Sunday.

Hatcher and Kalmbach defeated Matt Motter and Matt Olson 18-21, 21-13, 15-12 for the championship. The duo never lost in the double-elimination tournament.

“We just focused more. We played our game better,” said Kalmbach, who has just recently begun playing with Hatcher.

In the women’s tournament on Saturday, San Diego’s Lisa Rutledge and Kim DiCello captured the title, but the local team of Patti Cook and Dana Kabashima took the honor of playing — and winning — the most matches.

Rutledge, a veteran professional player who’s played on the domestic AVP Tour and the FIVB international circuit, and DiCello breezed through the competition undefeated on a sand socks-wearing day to win their second tournament together. The top-seeded team defeated No. 2 Caitlin Ledoux and Stevi Robinson in the final, 21-16, 21-17.
