Kelly Kosmo completes the Semana Nautica 6-Mile Swim in 2017.

The Semana Nautica Association is thrilled to announce its special award winners from the 2017 summer sports festival. Arjun McAvoy has been voted as Athlete of the Year while the Kosmo Family has been given the Jeff Farrell Award.

Arjun McAvoy has been named the Semana Nautica 2017 Athlete of the Year.

The Athlete of the Year is reserved for a Semana Nautica participant that exhibits outstanding athletic performance and sportsmanship during that year’s fesitval. McAvoy swam in four different ocean-swimming races, competed in the Run to Surf Adventure Race, and finished off the festival by kayaking the 6-mile swim alongside his wife Hilary.

The Jeff Farrell Award is given to those that support and embody the spirit of Semana Nautica. Jeff Farrell is a longtime Semana Nautica boardmember who won a gold medal at the 1960 Rome Olympics merely two weeks after an emergency appendectomy. Farrell continues to demonstrate commitment and excellence in athletics, recently winning a national championship at the Masters level.

The Kosmo Family is filled with Semana Nautica enthusiasts that personify the festival’s community spirit. Between dad Dave, son Trevor, and daughter Kelly, there’s usually a Kosmo competing in just about every ocean swimming race during the festival.

The honorees will be recognized at East Beach Grill following Reef & Run events. McAvoy is scheduled for Thursday, August 24 and the Kosmos on Thursday, August 31. The awards ceremony on the 24th will also include the Semana Nautica Ocean Swimmers of the Year Taylor Steffen and Olivia Smith.
