Reid rules Reef and Run mile swim again

When Stewart Reid enters the Reef and Run Series 1-mile ocean swim, the chances are good that he’s going to come out on top.

Competing in the 11th event of the series on Tuesday at East Beach, Reid won for the fifth time and posted his fastest time of the season, 22 minutes, 46 seconds. He beat out Ed Smith (23.46), Greg Gaitan (23.51) and Chris Braden (24.12).

Reid, who has won the 1.5-mile Alcatraz Sharkfest Swim in San Francisco Bay, also has a victory in the 1-kilometer swim event in the Reef and Run Series.

Tuesday’s 1-k winner was Katherine Warren in 17:04. Mateo Mercur, the triathlon coach at UCSB, finished second in 17:39.

In the running events, Greg Husak captured his third 4-miler of the series, clocking in at 24.27, and Branko Steets won his second 2-mile race in 13.21.

The duathalon (1-k swim, 2-mile run) was won by Mercur in 31.13 with Warren taking second (31.30) and J. Ritter third (34.40).
