Martilla, Holman earn Ocean Swimmer of the Year honors
Connor Martilla and Hannah Holman will enter the Semana Nautica record books as the 2024 Ocean Swimmers of the Year.
Martilla turned in a series of impressive performances during the two-week-long summer sports festival. The 20-year-old was the overall champion in three events: the Mullen & Henzell 2-Mile Swim on July 6, Reef & Run 1-Mile Swim on June 27, and the 6-Mile Ocean Swim on July 14.
Holman recorded top-five finishes in three races to secure the women’s Ocean Swimmer of Year title. Her best result was a second-place finish in the Mullen & Henzell 3-Mile Swim.
Semana Nautica’s Ocean Swimmer of the Year is determined by a points system based off results from five-different events. To qualify for the standings, swimmers cannot wear wetsuits and must compete in at least 3 of the 5 official races.
Nathan Cohen, Rohan Thomas, and John McCarthy were the only other male swimmers to meet qualification criteria.
Grace Nackers, Heather Meckelborg, Emily Case, and Heather Royer joined Holman as the only females to qualify for OSOY standings.
